Political Economy Group
LACEA’S Political Economy Group (PEG) was created in 1998 by a group of members of the Association interested in improving the dissemination of ideas in the specific area of Political Economy. The general focus of this group is Political Economy, with special interest in interdisciplinary contributions. Original PEG members included Mariano Tommasi, Andrés Velasco, Pablo Spiller, Nora Lustig, Jorge Streb, Ernesto Stein, and Mauricio Cárdenas.
The idea of the PEG’s Annual Workshop is to encourage interaction and cross-fertilization between paper presenters, policymakers, and researchers.

Annual Meetings
Workshop on Political Economy
The Political Economy Group of LACEA has held annual meetings since 1998. As in previous years, the 2025 meeting promoted the discussion around the connection between economics and politics that is relevant for Latin American and Caribbean economies. The focus of the meeting was on the connection between economics and political institutions broadly understood, including legislatures, courts, executives, political parties, elections, weakly institutionalized environments, the institutions of federalism and the workings of the public service.
