Ana Balsa

Description

Ana Balsa holds a PhD in Economics from Boston University and a degree in Economics from Universidad de la República, Uruguay. She is a Professor at the Universidad de Montevideo, teaching courses in Microeconomics, Econometrics, Human Capital, and Health Economics. Balsa is the editor of the Journal of Health Economics, founder of the LACEA Health Economics Network, and co-organizer of the Virtual International Seminar on the Economics of Risky Health Behaviors (VERB). She has served as the Scientific Chair of the 2023 IHEA World Congress and was part of the IHEA Board of Directors (2016-2019). Her research interests include Health Economics, Early Childhood Interventions, and Education Economics, with a focus on social interactions, statistical discrimination, and human capital development. Her work on programs promoting human capital has covered areas such as prenatal care, anti-tobacco campaigns, and education programs. Balsa’s projects have been funded by organizations like NIH, the IDB, and ANII, and her research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, and Economics of Education Review.
