Description
Verónica Amarante is Director of Socioeconomic Research at CAF (Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean) and Full Professor in the Economics Department at the School of Economics and Administration, Universidad de la República (UdelaR) in Uruguay. She is a member of the National Research System (Level II) and an Associate Researcher at the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP).
She served as Director of ECLAC's Montevideo Office (2014-2021), Director of the Institute of Economics at UdelaR during two periods (2011-2012; 2022-2025), and as a researcher at the same institute (1998-2012; 2021-2025). She also worked in ECLAC's Social Development Division (2012-2013)
Her research interests focus on economic development, gender, and labor economics, with special emphasis on Uruguay and Latin America.
